Midsomer Norton bus late

Apologies to all about the late running of the Midsomer Norton bus this morning.

It got stuck turning out of the JVA yard, then got stuck behind a jacknifed lorry, and then encountered another jam of traffic. It's inevitable there will be some problems when we have snow.

If anyone has any practical ideas about setting up a better information system to keep everyone informed, please let me know. Particularly if you can offer advice about setting up a group text or if you would like to volunteer to do it!

Alex

Buses will hopefully be running today

Have just spoken to Andy at JVA. They are hoping to run both buses in spite of the snow and have already got one bus (going elsewhere) out of their yard. I'll let you know if any change.

Autumn term newsletter

Frome Independent School Travel (FIST)
Newsletter 26th August 2010

I hope everyone enjoyed a good Summer, and you are all ready to get back to school.

Website

This newsletter will be posted to our blog site http://fromebus.blogspot.com/
Please save the address: there is excuse for not paying for the bus because you haven’t received the newsletter.

Parking at bus stops

It would be great if we could start the new school year without people parking inside bus stops, particularly at Beckington. This is selfish and irresponsible; it makes it harder for children to cross the road safely and difficult for anybody else using these stops for other bus services. Please park outside the bus stop.

New committee member needed

We are looking for somebody to join the Committee, mainly to help chase up late payers. It is also a chance to be involved with the running of the bus and to get your views heard. Please let me know if you would like to help.

Passenger numbers

At the time of writing we have a total of 76 passengers in all, (48 Frome/28 MSN) including 6 paying a reduced fare to use the MSN bus for journeys within the city of Bath. So we still have spare capacity on the Frome bus and one place currently on the MSN bus. If anyone knows someone who could be interested in a place, please ask them to get in touch.

Fares

The fare for Autumn term will be £335 per child. For the small number of children using the MSN bus to travel within Bath, boarding at Bradley Road, North Road or at KES, the fare will be a single payment of £170.

There are a number of people still not paying on time. Please make sure you pay promptly at the start of term as it is a waste of our time having to chase late payers.

Payment methods

Due to changes in terms and conditions imposed by our bank, it looks as if we might be unable to continue with the free banking which we have enjoyed up to now, resulting in increased costs. Electronic transfers, however, incur no charges so it would be very helpful if you could pay by online banking if at all possible.

Online payment:
Payments should be made by Monday 6 September. If you have more than one child using the bus you can pay in two instalments: £170 per child by 6 September; £165 per child by 1 November.

if you require payment details, please email fromebus@btinternet.com

Giving notice. Parents are reminded that as FIST has to budget ahead and set fees for the term according to the numbers travelling. We run on a very tight budget and therefore require a half term's notice or payment in lieu should parents decide to remove their children from the run.

Term/bus operating dates.

RHS. Fri 3 Sept* – Fri 15 Oct; Mon 1 Nov – Wed 15 Dec.
KES. Weds 8 Sept – Weds 20 Oct; Mon 1 Nov – Thurs 16 Dec.

* Please note there will be no bus on Thursday 2 Sept for the small number of RHS students at school that day as it is not viable to run two buses for the number of passengers. Both buses will operate on days when at least one school is fully open.

Contacting JVA.

Committee members don’t always have up to date operational information on whether the bus is running late, traffic news and so on; nor can we help with lost property. If you have any queries relating to these matters please contact JVA directly in the first instance on 01761 433366 or 07966 282467. Committee members will do their best to take up unresolved issues and complaints.

Time Table.

There is one slight change to the timetable: we have introduced a new stop at Claverton bus-stop and removed the Rose & Crown at Limpley Stoke which has not been used for some time.
• Make sure you arrive at the bus stop in good time, as the buses will not wait;
• Park sensibly and be sensitive to the needs of local residents.

Code of Conduct / Behaviour.

Please remind children:
• Behave sensibly at bus stops - do not rush forward, push or shove when bus arrives.
• Never cross immediately in front or behind a bus
• Older pupils are asked to encourage younger pupils to stay well clear of the bus when waiting and on getting off
• Follow any instruction your bus driver gives you at any stage of the journey
• Remain seated with seat belt fastened at all times when the bus is in motion
• Smoking and eating are not allowed on the bus
• Please take your litter home with you
• Do not misbehave – bad behaviour could distract the driver and cause an accident
• Bad behaviour could lead to exclusion from the bus without refund

Please remind your children that disruptive behaviour distracts the driver and is dangerous.

Newsletter and fares for summer term

Here is the text of latest newsletter:

Frome Independent School Travel (FIST)
Newsletter 14th April 2010

Passenger numbers

At the time of writing we have a total of 75 passengers in all, (51 Frome/24 MSN) including 6 paying a reduced fare to use the MSN bus for journeys within the city of Bath. So we still have spare capacity on each bus. If anyone knows someone who could be interested in a place, please ask them to get in touch.

Fares

We still have far too many people not paying on time. Please make sure you pay promptly at the start of term.

The fare for Summer term will be £305 per child, made up of £175 for the first half of term, £130 for the second half. As in previous years, children in years 11 and 13 do not have to pay for the second half because of study leave.
For the small number of children using the MSN bus to travel within Bath, boarding at Bradley Road, North Road or at KES, the fare for Summer term will be £160, (£90 for those in years 11 and 13) to be paid in one instalment.

To ensure that we get in our funds on time and with the minimum fuss, parents with only one child please pay with a single cheque for £305. Those with two or more children can send either one cheque for the full amount; or two cheques, the first for £175 dated 19th April; the other for £130 dated 7th June.

Please send your cheques to: Martin Harris, Lilac Cottage, Dunkerton, Bath, BA2 8BG by 19th April latest. Please pay on time; it is a waste of our time to have to chase late payers. If you would like to pay electronically/by online banking, please contact Martin at harrism@uk.innovation-group.com for details.

Cheques should be made payable to FIST, with the following on the reverse:
• child’s name
• your e-mail address
• bus stop

Giving notice. Parents are reminded that as FIST has to budget ahead and set fees for the term according to the numbers travelling. We run on a very tight budget and therefore require a half term's notice or payment in lieu should parents decide to remove their children from the run.

Term/bus operating dates.

RHS. Tues 20 Apr – Thu 27 May; Mon 7 Jun – Thu 15 July.
KES. Mon 19 Apr – Friday 28 May; Mon 7 Jun – Weds 14 July.

• Both buses will operate on days when either school is effectively closed, please check whether buses will be run between KES and RHS on those days.

Friday

Both schools say they will be open as normal tomorrow, after clearing of snow at school sites. So barring any unexpected heavy snow fall, the buses will be running on the normal schedule in the morning.

Alex

Royal High now closed

RHS now says it is closed on the website

No buses

KES has announced that it is closed apart from exams today because of the snow.

RHS says it will be offering only skeleton opening.

So we have decided not to run the buses for today as it looked as though it may be difficult to get out anyway.

Sorry this is late notice, but it has been a last minute thing to get information from the schools,

Up and running

JVA are in the process of getting the buses out of their yard now although there is some very severe ice. If they do have a problem I will post an update as soon as I hear something, but the buses should be out on time.

Friday buses

As things stand, both RHS and KES expect to be open in the morning.

I have spoken to JVA who say that they should be able to get buses out as normal in the morning, barring some unexpected setback with the weather.

I will be checking with them first thing and will post if there is any change of plan, so please check this site in the morning before you set off. Please try to avoid ringing JVA in the morning as Andy, who runs the company, is in hospital in London having some surgery.

KES now closed

I have just been informed that KES will be closed tomorrow (Thursday) so there will be no buses.

I will endeavour to provide an update for Friday at some point tomorrow.

Alex

Royal High closed

Royal High has announced that it is closed tomorrow; in addition Andy at JVA has informed me that if KES is open, it will be very difficult to get any buses out of their yard. So there may be no bus even if KES is open. I will post again if any update.

Winter weather

This blog will be used to post any announcements about the FIST school bus service, particularly when there is bad weather. As some of you will know, KES is closed today (Wednesday) because of the snow, but all parents should make their own checks to establish that their school is open.

I will update this in the morning as soon as I have spoken to JVA and know whether there will be a bus running – sooner if it is confirmed that KES and RHS are both going to be closed.

If you have any doubts, please call JVA on 01761 433366.
